Scientifically based ways to relieve stress

Hello ladies and happy Sunday!  If you have been following along with me on Instagram (or are new), I like to give inspo and share with you how I am helping to take care of my mind, body and soul.  This is something that I have named “Self-care Sunday” and I share this content on Sundays. 🙂

As I have been feeling a little more stress than usual (as I am sure many of us have with the  Coronavirus pandemic and protesting for Blacklives Matter), I know that it’s important for me to increase my self-care.

I wanted to provide a few science based stress relieving practices that I like to use on a daily basis and that I hope are useful for you.  Here is a great article to reference for more in depth reading.

  1.  Good Nutrition.  I feel that whatever I put in my body has a direct impact on my well-being and during times of stress I like to make sure that I am eating as “clean” as possible.  For example, I often make a big salad with fresh greens and load up on healthy fibers and a good sized portion of protein (I usually have chicken breast but salmon is also a good option which has omega fatty acids).  I also like to have a soothing cup of warm tea and especially at night before bed as part of my bedtime routine.  Here is one of my favorite teas and recently I have been enjoying Liquid IV’s sleep multiplier (make sure to use discount code leisure_chic for 25% off at checkout!) .

  1. Exercise.  At least 5 times a week, I try to go on an elliptical while the babe is sleeping.  This is more of a low impact activity and it has always been something that I enjoy doing.  I also like to do online streaming yoga from my favorite studio, Corepower yoga and lately, I have been enjoys a morning walk when the weather is nice!
  1. Social Support.  I am naturally a social person so speaking with someone that I am close to has always been one of my go to self-care strategies.  My husband and I have nightly conversations and we also have a couples “check in” on Tuesdays.  My mother is another person that I regularly speak with and nearly on a daily basis.  I also try to remind myself that it’s also important to be there for them as well to provide support.
  1. Being outside.  I absolutely love being outdoors and while it’s been a little more difficult with the Coronavirus, I still make it a priority to get outside every single day!  One activity that I have really been enjoying lately is gardening and specifically planting flowers.  Flowers always make me smile (which is also good for your wellbeing), brighten up your loving space, and you get that added benefit of being out in nature.  I have also brought some more nature indoors and just recently set up an AeroGarden in our kitchen.  It has a modern look and we are loving to watch our vegetables grow.  We also can’t wait to make our first salad!!

I have found the above self-care tool to be so useful in my everyday life.  I hope that just reading this will motivate you to actively seek self-care for yourself.

Happy Self-care Sunday babes!

XOXO
